BrandTuitive recently welcomed two college students who expressed interest in shadowing NYC branding and marketing agencies for a day. One of their assignments was to write a blog about something meaningful to them. We’re proud to share the first of their blog entries from Tristan, a college sophomore who shows lots of wisdom writing about the importance of being happy in one’s career.

Advice to a Gen Z Job Seeker

We recently met with a college marketing student who was visiting New York City branding agencies. She came in for an informational meeting/coffee to get to know BrandTuitive.

Right before she left she asked if we had any suggestions for marketing job seekers like her. We offered the following nuggets of advice – the things we wish we had done better when we were graduating from college:

Stop saying like, like every 2 seconds

Don’t kid yourself, you’ve at least once crossed over to the dark side and used the word “like” in a sentence where it, like, doesn’t belong. When discussing your brand, be aware of how often you use filler words such as like. Instead of cringing and promising to yourself you will never do it again, try breaking the bad habit.
