People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it – Simon Sinek

The simple truth is that core values are very important in determining how people view what you bring to market. Strong core values provide a filter through which you can run your business, develop your advertising and marketing, support your vision and shape the organization’s culture.

Establishing core values provides both internal and external advantages to the company:

  • Core values help a company in the decision-making process

  • Core values can provide a roadmap for a brand’s future

  • Core values are becoming primary recruiting and retention tools

  • Core values are the heart of a company’s culture

As an agency, we’ve worked with clients to help them create their core values and to be sure they live by them every day. For our client ShopKeep, we helped them write their core values by getting input from every individual in the organization about what was important to them and what they valued in business and in their personal life.

By helping ShopKeep understand what their employees care about, they created a unifying raison d'etre and a road map for how the organization operates every day. Many of the values reflected how employees felt customers should be treated and centered on providing superior customer care. It’s no surprise then that for the third year running, ShopKeep has been recognized for their commitment to excellence in customer service with the Stevie Award for Customer Service Department of the Year.

What are your company’s core values? Any cool examples of other company’s core values you want to share?
